Empowering Growth: Mitsui’s Strategic Investment in Sneha Farms Indian Broiler Business https://www.vprintinfotech.com/empowering-growth-mitsuis-strategic-investment-in-sneha-farms-indian-broiler-business/ https://www.vprintinfotech.com/empowering-growth-mitsuis-strategic-investment-in-sneha-farms-indian-broiler-business/#respond Thu, 28 Mar 2024 06:20:26 +0000 https://www.vprintinfotech.com/?p=6033 Empowering Growth: Mitsui’s Strategic Investment in Sneha Farms Indian Broiler Business

Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui”, Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Kenichi Hori) has decided to invest in Sneha Farms Pvt. Ltd. (“Sneha”), one of India’s leading broiler producers. After the investment, the company will become an associated company of Mitsui.

With the country’s GDP per capita reaching US$2,400, chicken consumption is about to enter an expansionary phase. India has a sizeable non-vegetarian population and has achieved continuous economic growth and sustained development. Sneha Group is a chicken supplier based in Hyderabad, the capital city of the state of Telangana. Its integrated operations encompass feed manufacturing, broiler production, meat processing and packing, transportation, and retail. It is one of India’s leading companies in terms of production volume. Through its collaboration with Mitsui, Sneha also aims to expand its share in the Indian market and plans to double its production over the next five years. Furthermore, Sneha is aiming for full-scale entry into the market for high added-value food products, such as frozen and chilled ready-to-eat meals.

Mitsui will continue to contribute to the stable supply of chicken and other sources of protein, for which demand is expected to grow.

Chicken has the best feed efficiency and smallest environmental footprint of any livestock product. It is subject to few religious constraints, and demand is expected to grow worldwide. For many years, Mitsui has been building an integrated chicken production business, especially in the Japanese market, through its group companies, including its subsidiary Prifoods Co., Ltd. Using knowledge accumulated through its activities in Japan, Mitsui is also expanding its overseas business. It invested in Zalar Holding S.A. (“Zalar Holding”), the biggest broiler business in Morocco and Senegal, in 2018, and invested in Wadi Poultry S.A.E., Egypt’s biggest broiler producer, in 2024.

Meanwhile in the marine products area, Mitsui is strengthening farming and processing of shrimp, which offer high protein and low fat with a short production cycle, just like chicken. In 2019, it invested in Vietnam’s Minh Phu Seafood Joint Stock Company, the world’s biggest shrimp producer and processor, and invested in Industrial Pesquera Santa Priscila, the world’s largest shrimp farming company, in 2024.

Mitsui has identified “Wellness Ecosystem Creation” as one of its key strategic initiatives in its Medium-term Management Plan 2026. By supplying healthy food, Mitsui endeavors to contribute to the quality improvement of today’s increasingly diverse consumer lifestyles. Through this investment, Mitsui aims to expand the added value of its food and nutrition business cluster, enhance health and well-being through food, and thereby support the realization of richer and brighter lives for people.

BENGALURU, INDIA (February 7, 2024) – NOVUS recently named Dr. Manish Kumar Singh its new regional director for NOVUS in South Central Asia.  In this role, Dr. Singh is responsible for developing and executing the Novus business strategy in the region.

“Asia represents a huge opportunity for growth for NOVUS,” says Vaibhav Nagpal, DVM, NOVUS vice president and managing director for Asia. “Manish has extensive expertise about the market and the customers throughout South Central Asia. He also has the confidence of his colleagues to make sound, strategic decisions that will help grow the business in the region. With 15 years of experience working in South Asia and Asia-Pacific regions in various roles, I am sure he will strengthen the NOVUS team and grow the business.”

Dr. Singh says his top priority in the new role is his colleagues.

“I aim to build a culture of trust by fully engaging my colleagues,” he says. “Agriculture is a business about animals and plants, but the foundation is people. It takes many people in many roles working together to produce high-quality, safe, nutritious food. By fostering a collaborative working environment across all my teams, we will be more successful as a trusted partner for all our customers and stakeholders.”

Speaking about the poultry and dairy customers in South Central Asia, Dr. Singh says there are many opportunities for intelligent nutrition from NOVUS to positively impact animal performance and help producers achieve their goals.

“Feed cost is a top concern for producers worldwide. We can help optimize feed costs and affect the impact of anti-nutritional factors through our knowledge about feedstuffs along with our CIBENZA® Enzyme Feed Additive,” he says. “Meat consumption and processing is on the rise; we have solutions for those concerned about meat quality, growth efficiency, and structural health. Our team also has global expertise in maternal health that, partnered with the use of MINTREX® Bis-Chelated Trace Minerals, can help optimize the reproductive performance.”

As an international company, Dr. Singh said NOVUS has a dedicated team of in-house technical experts and renowned third-party consultants to support producers as they work to improve gut health and immune system function and implement antibiotic-free production.

“Through an integrated approach combining technical know-how with gut health products like AVIMATRIX® Feed Solution and NEXT ENHANCE® Feed Solution, we are helping create effective ABF production,” he says.

Dr. Singh says following the initial success of the NOVUS dairy team in India, the company has invested more resources, allowing further expansion in this market. The goal is to reach more customers and bring innovative solutions backed by scientific research to the largest dairy market in the world.

“There are many challenges and opportunities in dairy production. NOVUS has decades’ worth of research and commercial trials demonstrating how we can improve milk fat production and reproductive performance,” he says. “On the challenge side, we have products that are shown to reduce somatic cell count and manage lameness to improve productivity and extend the herd’s longevity. This is an important growth market for NOVUS and we have a lot to offer.”

Dr. Singh came to NOVUS in 2019 to serve as the head of strategic marketing and technical services for South Central Asia before leading the marketing team for the Asia-Pacific region. He held roles at Cargill and Alltech before coming to NOVUS.

BENGALURU, INDIA (6 December 2023) – Achieving the maximum output of milk yield and components is the goal of any dairy farm. In an upcoming webinar series, the dairy experts from NOVUS will share their insights on how dairy farmers and feed mills in India can optimize their cows’ and feed performance.

The first sessions of the webinar series called Balancing Act: Optimizing Milk Fat and Protein through Intelligent Nutrition will take place in two parts: Part One at 4:00 p.m. (IST) on December 20 and Part Two at 4:00 p.m. (IST) on January 24, 2024.

The dairy team in India is very excited to host its first-ever webinar, which explores the crucial role nutrition plays in milk and component production,” says Gnanasekar Rangasamy (Dr. GS), M.V.Sc, species solutions manager – dairy for the Asia region. “Over the course of the two webinars, the team will share the factors that impact fat and solids-not-fat (SNF), innovative feeding practices, the importance of data when planning nutritional strategies, and how milk quality impacts the financial outcomes for dairy farmers.”

Part One will feature Chetan Shembekar, M.V.Sc., NOVUS technical services specialist, as he shares how different types of feed material impact both milk production and incidents of milk fat depression.

“It’s not just the quantity of feed but the quality and type of feed that can impact milk production,” Shembekar says. “It’s important that dairy farmers understand their options and know the effect feed can have on milk, fat and SNF production.”

During Part Two, Dr. GS will discuss the influence of genetics, providing a comprehensive overview of how different breeds perform, which breeds are more susceptible to milk fat production challenges, and how to identify unprofitable cows that need nutrition or management intervention.

Ajay Singh, M.V.Sc., senior technical services specialist, will provide an overview of sub-clinical mastitis and what can be done to reduce the risk of this common and costly disease.

“Udder health is necessary for good milk production,” Singh says. “Understanding mastitis allows farmers to determine the steps they can take to ensure cow health and comfort.”

Shri Parshottam Rupala Ji, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairying, Government of India addressed the Indian Poultry Industry during World Egg Day 2023.

In a significant milestone for India’s poultry industry, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has granted its approval to India’s self-declaration of freedom from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in specific poultry compartments. This remarkable achievement reflects India’s unwavering commitment to upholding stringent standards of animal health and biosecurity.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as Bird Flu, was first detected in India in the state of Maharashtra in February 2006. Subsequently, the country has witnessed annual outbreaks of HPAI in various regions, leading to substantial economic losses. The disease has been reported in 24 states and union territories, resulting in the culling of over 9 million birds as part of efforts to control its spread.

In light of this achievement, Shri Parshottam Rupala Ji, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries & Dairying, Government of India addressed the Indian Poultry Industry during World Egg Day 2023. He added that India is not only the third-largest producer of eggs, surpassing the remarkable number of 129.60 billion annually but also the fifth-largest producer of poultry, reaching an impressive figure of 4.47 million tonnes annually. This recognition of India’s bird flu-free zones has far-reaching implications for international trade and the poultry sector’s prosperity.

India’s approach to combating HPAI follows a “detect and cull” policy, as outlined in the National Action Plan for Prevention, Control, and Containment of Avian Influenza (revised – 2021). This comprehensive response involves the humane destruction of infected and exposed animals, eggs, feed, litter, and other contaminated materials. Additionally, measures such as restrictions on the movement of poultry and poultry products, disinfection and clean-up of infected premises, and the implementation of a Post-Operative Surveillance Plan (POSP) have been put in place. It is important to note that vaccination against HPAI is not permitted in India.
Compartmentalization: A Key Control Measure
Despite these challenges, India has proactively embraced the concept of poultry compartmentalization to mitigate the risks associated with HPAI. Compartmentalization is a vital tool that enhances animal health, reduces the risk of disease outbreaks within and outside the compartment, and facilitates the trade of poultry and poultry-related products.

Approval of Self-Declaration by WOAH
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, submitted a self-declaration asserting freedom from High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza in 26 poultry compartments to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). On October 13, 2023, WOAH officially approved this self-declaration, coinciding with World Egg Day. The declaration is now accessible to the public on the WOAH website.

These poultry compartments are located in four states of India, namely Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. WOAH’s recognition of this declaration underscores India’s dedication to international biosecurity standards and is poised to significantly enhance the export potential of Indian poultry and poultry products, including meat and eggs. India, being the third-largest global producer of eggs (129.60 billion) and the fifth-largest producer of poultry meat (4.47 million tonnes), is well-positioned to capitalize on this achievement.

During the 2022-23 fiscal year, India exported poultry and poultry products to 64 countries, generating revenue of 134 million USD. The approval of this self-declaration is anticipated to unlock new opportunities for the Indian poultry sector in the global market, making a substantial contribution to the country’s economic growth.
